MetaSync could add a new source for art covers both artists and albums using the Foss service CoverArtArchive. Python library appears to exist which can query the api giving the mbid as search item.

At the same time the current way of getting cover art should be preserved, so probably it would be a good idea to add a setting option to pick the desired source.
